Land Tax: Moving towards Avacyn Restored

Avacyn Restored is shaping up to be an awesome set of magic cards. If you haven’t been keeping up with the spoilers, I’ll kindly point you in the right direction. There are so many great cards: Avacyn, Griselbrand, Cavern of Souls, Tamiyo, Thunderous Wrath, etc, etc. Rather than writing a set review, which I plan on doing, I want to talk about a way that you can get ahead of the game in terms of trading in the next couple weeks.

One of the new mechanics that is arriving with Avacyn Restored is miracle or as I want to call it “top-deck champion.” The miracle cards are a group of cards with really powerful effects, that if you draw it first on a turn you can immediately cast for a greatly discounted mana cost. The miracle card I expect to get played the most? That would be Thunderous Wrath, at worst it is a fireball for 5 damage and at its best, its miracle cost, it is 5 damage for one measly red mana. Pretty sweet, right?

How awesome would the start of T1: Delver, T2: Delver and Ponder, T3: Flip both Delvers revealing Thunderous Wrath, cast the “Wrath”, and swing with the Delvers for a total of 11 damage. Seems good, plus you can even hold Mana Leak up.

Obviously, you’re not going to be able to get your hands on any of the new Avacyn Restored cards before this weekend and most people already have the Ponders, Delvers, and Mana Leaks they need. So what can you dig up that people will be looking for?

Noxious Revival!

Imaging that same scenario with the Delver deck as before with the exception you are also holding a Noxious Revival. Then after Mana Leaking whatever they play you can end of turn put Thunderous Wrath back on the top of your deck and you can deal another 11 damage! Yay making Delver good again….oh wait.

Anyway, I’ve bought a bunch of these previously for around $.10-$.50. You can still find a lot of small stores that sell them for this price. Just a few days ago they were even selling on Starcity for $.49 and now they are up to a full dollar. VALUE! No, I know buying Noxious Revival isn’t going to make you rich or fill your binder with legacy staples but for five dollars you can add more than a few playsets of these at the right price. You’ll be able to trade them at a dollar a piece and get some new things that you might need and make someone in search of them at a later date happy.

Just my tip and it certainly might not be the best bet, but if you find me this Saturday at my prerelease I’ll have 16-20 Noxious revivals up for trade.

Until Next Time,
