BioShock 2 Review

Hmmm. Has anyone not played the original BioShock? Anyone out there? Well if you haven’t played the original keep reading. If you have played the original, the game will feel similar, just from a new perspective. You’ll find BioShock 2 is about a half a point worse than the original. Just not as fresh.

As for those who haven’t played the original. Where have you been?

More seriously, pick these games up. If you are a fan of FPSs or anything of that nature you will love both.

I’m not going to give anything story related away but I do want to point of the differences you’ll see in BioShock 2. First, you play as a Big Daddy. This is fun, but not as much fun as I thought it would be. I thought I would be super powerful and just mowing down splicers like you saw the Big Daddys do in the original. However, this isn’t really the case. You’re pretty much on par with the abilities you had in the original. A little disappointing.

You do get to use some new weapons. The power drill is fun, but it’s only really useful in the first couple levels. After that it’s to difficult to get close enough to splicers without taking damage. The weapon I ended up using the most is the .50 cal machine gun. That was a lot of fun and really allowed me to mow down splicers, especially with the alternate ammo.

Other than that you don’t see much of an update. I played the game on Xbox 360, which didn’t give a graphical update, like at all. I did watch it on PC and it looked *a lot* better.

The most important thing for me playing through BioShock 2 was expanding upon the story of the original. That is where both the games shined. Not only was the game play fun, but the stories were intriguing and well written. Just a lot of fun to play.

I’m giving BioShock 2 an 8.0/10. Didn’t bring enough new to get a much higher score but was definitely worth the play through. Maybe two. I suggest playing both BioShock and BioShock 2. If you want to check them out you can buy it here or rent it from Gamefly.
