Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Review

For those of you that follow us on Twitter you know that I spent my day yesterday playing Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. For those of you that don’t follow us, @vgloft, on Twitter do that now, here’s a link. Anyway, know that I spent my #SundayFunday playing the game.

First, I want you to know that I am a huge *HUGE* DC comics fan. Anyone that knows me will tell you that. So to find a game that incorporates many of the characters from the DC Universe I was pumped. Although, I’m not always
a fan of the fighting genre, especially after graduating to Xbox/PS2 gen and then Xbox 360/PS3 gen. I was excited to play this, mostly because I could play as the Green Lantern (By far my favorite superhero, followed closely by Batman).

From a objective reviewers standpoint, and I’ll do my best to hook you up with that, this game is just average. There are a lot of flaky controls and the controls just don’t feel tight. Also, the gameplay is super repetitive. I can’t tell you how many times I was able to do the FreeFallin’ achievement criteria. I mean seriously how many time can you fall 100 ft. before you finally reach sea level. In this game, it’s approximately 12, which is the exact amount of times it’d take this move to deplete the health bar 3 times. So if you did it right, you could probably do it more. Anyway, the story was just so-so. You could tell they had to struggle to incorporate the DC Universe into the Mortal Kombat world and vice-versa, but I’ve certainly seen worse stories in video games.

From an objective reviewers standpoint, I’d score the game at 6/10. However, I’m not really an objective reviewer, since I freakin’ love DC and I’ll give it an 8.3/10. The game is great for a couple hours of fun. You probably won’t want to play it much longer unless you are an achievement/trophy fiend or you love DC or MK. If you love either DC or MK you should probably think about buying it. If not and you have 4 hours to kill and don’t have anything else, think about renting it. That’s the truth. Breaking it down for you guys :P.

As always, Keep it Real;
